Moondark is built on free and open-source software. This page lists every third-party library, font, and tool that Moondark depends on, along with each one's license and any attribution requirements. We are grateful to the authors of each project listed here—without their work, Moondark would not exist.

For each dependency, we provide the project name, the version included in this release of Moondark, the author or maintainer where known, the license under which the project is distributed, and a link to the canonical project page. The full text of each distinct license appears once, at the bottom of the relevant section.
Moondark performs the great majority of its astronomical calculations using astronomy-engine by Don Cross—planetary positions, lunar phases, eclipse predictions, the timing of Moon-aspect events, sign ingress moments, and the moment-by-moment ephemeris that makes the void-of-course determination possible. Without Don Cross's work and his generous decision to license it under the MIT license, Moondark would either not exist or would depend on costly commercial ephemeris software.

Note on Chiron: the Keplerian orbital solver for Chiron (engine/chiron.js) is original work by Moondark, derived from publicly available JPL Horizons orbital elements, and is not third-party software. It is listed under "Moondark's original work" near the bottom of this page.
Moondark uses three open-source typeface families, all distributed under the SIL Open Font License v1.1 (OFL-1.1). The full SIL OFL text appears in the "SIL Open Font License v1.1" section below.
Used in Moondark for all display-scale typography—the degree numeric, sign names, screen titles, section heads, and pull quotes. Cormorant carries the poetic register of the app.
Used in Moondark for all utility typography—prose, labels, timestamps, navigation, the Settings interface, the Learn articles. Inter carries the readable, instrumental register.
Used in Moondark for astronomical glyphs—zodiac sign symbols, planet symbols, aspect glyphs including the Chiron and sextile symbols which the default iOS and Android system fonts render inconsistently. Noto Sans Symbols 2 gives a single, consistent rendering of those glyphs across platforms.
The following libraries are distributed under the MIT License and are bundled into Moondark at build time. Their copyright notices and the MIT license text are preserved per the license's requirements. The MIT license text appears in the "MIT License" section below.
(The @expo-google-fonts/* packages are MIT-licensed wrapper packages that load the SIL OFL-licensed fonts listed above. The MIT license governs the wrapper code; the SIL OFL governs the font files themselves.)
The following are original works owned by Peptidings Holdings, LLC and are not third-party open source. These works are protected by copyright; the Moondark mark is asserted under common-law trademark.
engine/chiron.js), derived from publicly available JPL Horizons orbital elements but implemented as original codeThe 1925 Sabian symbol phrases by Marc Edmund Jones (published in The Sabian Symbols in Astrology) are in the public domain. Moondark uses the Jones 1925 phrases as the canonical source of record in engine/sabian_symbols.js. The "essence" interpretations Moondark displays in readings are original modernizations authored by Moondark and are not derived from the 1925 text beyond holding the same degree-to-image mapping.
